Hay Point Terminal
Hay Point Coal Terminal
Hay Point Coal Terminal, located 38km south of Mackay, is one of Australia's largest and most efficient coal receival and export facilities.
Operated by Hay Point Services for BMA, the terminal handles and despatches coal from the mines operated by BMA in the northern Bowen Basin.
The annual coal throughput of Hay Point has been increased to 44 million tonnes following a significant expansion program.
Coal from each mine is stockpiled and reclaimed separately due to the different quality specifications of each coal type. Hay Point features the world's first automated coal tracking system which shows a visual representation of quality variation in stockpiles. Among other benefits, this system allows Hay Point to blend product to meet customers' specifications, control quality variation of coal despatches, and predict the coal quality parameters of cargoes prior to ship loading.
Ships are loaded at one of the two loading berths, one with a capacity to load 6,000 tonnes per hour and the other with a capacity to load 4,500 tonnes per hour. Bulk carriers up to 230,000 dead weight tonnes can be accommodated at the facility.
